- Ayano’s Birthday
- Paso Robles
- Saint Patrick’s Day
- Super Bloom
Right after coming back from San Diego we popped into March.
What a beautiful month!
We’ve had more rain than usual and I must admit that sometimes, sunny SoCal weather can get pretty boring. I actually miss having a cool cloudy morning filled with mist or an unexpected downpour. For March we got both!
To start of the month, I took Ayano up to Paso Robles and we stayed at the La Bellasera for a short vacation. It’s in an excellent location right next to some great wineries. Plus we have some great memories staying there. We stayed 3 nights (aka – get a 3rd night free – of course!). And because we’ve been there before… AND because it was a little off season, we were upgraded to one of the nicest rooms on the top floor. Yeah!
We took some walks locally in Paso, found a local diner that made an excellent french toast breakfast, and enjoyed our country drives through the vineyards and the route down to Moro Rock. We even drone up the coast towards Hearst Castle and stopped along the way to walk the piers, see the seals, and visit the light house. There was a special event happening at the light house, but may be next time we’ll be able to go in and visit.
We have a nice routine for visiting Paso that involves stopping in Santa Barbara then the Dutch Village (where we had ice cream).
A few things different this time around however, is that we went into San Luis Obispo (SLO) to have Sushi on Ayano’s birthday and later did a wine tour at a new vineyard called Niners Estate before heading back home to Yorba Linda. We had such a fun. short enjoyable time.
By the way, if you’ve never seen the movie Sideways, I recommend that you see it before you visit Paso.
The rest of the month was pretty uneventful except for a pigeon that tried to make its home in our garage. The poor thing was so frightened when we opened the garage that she dropped one of her eggs 🙁
With lots of rain and misty mornings we took advantage of walking the hills and parks like the one above our house in order to enjoy an expansive bloom of wild flowers through out Orange country and Riverside.
As a matter of fact, the poppies were in full bloom along the freeway near Lake Elsinore and people started being a little crazy by pulling over to take pictures and stalling traffic for miles in every direction! The city started blocking things off and were forcing people to park in designated areas were they could then take a shuttle to an area called Walker Canyon. The cost for the shuttle went from $5 to $20 per person, and still there were long lines of people waiting for hours to go see the poppies. Crazy!
For us being locals, we came early, parked away from the crowds, and took some of the other lesser known paths that had just as many beautiful flowers and poppies with out all the crowds. We enjoyed it so much that I even made a short video above from our morning walk around walker Canyon. So our cute trip to Paso and the Super Bloom made this month enjoyable.
Enjoy!
