April fools came in but nobody was making any jokes with all the worry about COVID and the lockdown… and people have started to get edgy following a whole month of ‘staying-at-home’ orders. But we were doing okay and it was a month of celebration!
Easter was the first week of April and Ayano wanted to make some Ukrainian Easter Bread (Paska). It was to be a trial run for Ukrainian Easter the following week. Unfortunately the yeast that she tried to use the first time was dead and we couldn’t find any in the stores. Nonetheless a good friend of ours pulled through and got some for us from a local baker. That was such a nice surprise and our month ended up being focused around making some delicious bread and pizza dough!
For Ukrainian Easter we also found a (not so) local deli that specializes in Eastern European meats. So we picked some up along with beets and horse radish… where Ayano did her magic to make a full Ukrainian Easter Fest for just the two of us. My mother would have been proud! I know Aunt Elsie on the farm was as she got have a special video peak of our endeavors! So Yummy!
The rest of the month was pretty uneventful except that I’ve been focused on playing one piece of music on the piano called Spring Dance by Edvard Gieg. As I am a beginner, it has a lot of tricky fingering and the idea is to play it as fast as possible. So I’ve been playing it a little everyday and now I just can’t get the tune out of my head (and it’s still not perfect). Yeash.
Anyway, all said and done, I’ve also started to get back into doing some video and photo experiments. So even while we are all staying at home, I’ve managed to keep pretty busy for the month. My Monkey Maze project will be starting up pretty soon, too.
