Just like that and we are in mid summer and the days have started to get.
Being Canadian, we decided to take July 1st off since it fell on a Monday. We also took July 4th off since we live in the United States as well – LOL.
I did manage to get down the the beach as well as it’s been a while since we’ve showed up at the Seaside Bakery and Donut shop in Newport. We’ve made some good friends there, and whenever we head down in the morning, we always stop by to say hello. I also pick up a coffee, a glaze donut, and a fresh croissant. There’s something about walking along the beach in the early morning with a coffee in your hand while watching the morning break tides and surfers. It’s soooo peaceful.
But this month was also the start of my training for a 1/2 marathon in Australia. So I did a few runs during low tide along the beach. My first goal was to start shedding a few pounds before beginning my HIIT (High Impact Intensity Training). So far, that’s going good.
I also headed to Montreal. My brother’s wife’s (Anita’s) father passed away in Montreal during my stay there, so I got to see her for the whole week along with Neil at my father’s place. It was a quite week and I kept a low profile due to the situation. But I did mange to get out in the mornings before it got too humid to run – or in a few cases… before it started raining for the whole day!
I usually walk a long the lake front and I did get to the Pointe Claire village as well. My father is now president of the bowling club, so I’m trying to help him out on the technical side to propose a new website for their club. I also introduced my father to VR and it looks like he’s hooked on it.
Mid July I found myself back home in California. The month is busy with lot’s of things like International Ice Cream and we tend to get a lot of promotional fliers. So we had yogurt at the Pressed Juicery at Fashion Island, ate some delicious pizza at Blaze Pizza in our new Town Center, and even enjoyed some ribs at BJs, since we had discounts and a gift card!
This month was also the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. I remember it like yesterday. At school we were listening to the communications over the radio and then We got to go home form school early to watch the the actual first moon walk. I was glued to our black ‘n white TV watching every detail.
So on the day of the anniversary, we headed down the street to the Richard Nixon Library as he was the president at the time and just happens to be a Yorba Linda resident. They had a lot of activities and items on display, while some of the guest speakers during the day were actually with President Nixon at the time during the ‘world’s longest’ Long Distant call… by AT&T of course!
Of course with a few outings, I still managed to get into a healthier routine by going for runs and walks of at least 5-6k every day followed by a swim in our pool. We’re also starting to do more evening walks and will perhaps even end up walking to our golf course for 9 holes a twilight! For around the house, things have died down and I only ended up installing a couple of ceiling fans due to the 95+ high temperatures that we’ve been getting. Next is that the odd smoke alarm is acting up again and one of our neighbors had a house fire, but with those out of the way, nothing else too exciting has happened this month. But perhaps the closest thing is the my cousin Sandy put up a picture of her mother handing out with her sisters when they were in their teens. Needles to say, my mother was one of them.. it’s such a cool shot! Thank you Sandy – glad you had that one!
Things for work will start getting busy in August, so I’m looking forward to keeping cool by going for some quick dips in the pool and using our ceiling fans!
Oh… and I really need to start learning how to use instagram.
For some reason I just don’t get it!
Anyway – see you next month.
