July 4th Fireworks

This year I was traveling back from Japan, so we didn’t get a chance to have our traditional walk along the beach before the crowds roll in. I say traditional because in truth… we are never around for July 4th. Last year was one of the few times we stayed local. Usually we’re off to Hawaii, up to Orca Island Kayaking, or hanging out in Montreal with family. But with everything going on this year, it just wasn’t possible to make any long distant plans to get away.

Besides, we have a relatively new house that sits up on a hill with a nice view of orange county that extends all the way to the ocean. On most days we can see Catalina island and in the winter we can see an outline of the cranes over in Long Beach as the sun sets behind them and into the ocean.

The Richard Nixon library is only a short distance away and they usually start their fireworks at 8pm. So after our BBQ, it was nice to sit out on the roof and watch the fireworks around town. It goes on for hours and there are at least 10 if not 20 going on at the same time in different cities. It only happens once a year and… since we are seldom here, I actually put some of it into a video as a kind of keepsake.

Enjoy!
