The Summer Solstice

Today is the summer solstice – also known as midsummer, or the longest day of the year for us in the northern hemisphere. So what a better way than to spend the first part of it at the park!?!

Ah the park… I just had to write a little blog about Yorba Linda Regional Park. If you’ve been following my Photo History Project (that I’m… ahem… little behind on), you would’ve noticed by now that I’m constantly putting pictures up of Yorba Linda park. This is such a great little park that has so many great places for photo ops that I can’t help not pull out my phone and take a quick snapshot. And then there’s the best part… NO MOSQUITOES! Yeah!

The city workers who take care of the park also do an excellent job. The landscape is always clean and well maintained, the lakes are constantly kept fresh and vibrant, and even the toilets are cleaner than some five star hotels I’ve been to.

Days like today, in the early morning when there’s overcast, the weather is just perfect for a nice walk or run around the three lakes where I regularly see people fishing. Hmmm… maybe one day I will bring my fishing rod and give it a try. Fishing, trails, paddle-boarding, horseshoes, beach volleyball courts, slides, swings, and BBQs… they’ve got it all. But the one reason I like this park so much (other than no mosquitoes) is that there are a number of comfortable benches in strategic locations were one can just sit, relax, and contemplate. Or in my case, write a paragraph for my blog – LOL!

Of course when I’m in training (which I’m trying to get back to for a few 1/2 marathons this fall), I like doing a 5K run around the park trails a fews times a week. As a matter fact I even have a run criss-crossing paths that includes a six-miler. And then if that’s not long enough, I can always cross over to the canal that would take me all the way to the ocean at over 26 miles!

As a matter of fact, this park in on my list for creating one of the running videos for the Virtual Runner app that I’m ‘slowly’ working on (now to be called Running Mate). It’s been on the back my mind for quite some time now, so I think that before the days get too short, I should get out here and record it.

But for now, I’m just going to sit here and enjoy the park a little more…
